چکیده

Simulation is used to investigate the behavior of the \global fairness" algorithms proposed for CRMA-II, a MAC protocol for very-high-speed networks devised by IBM for the local and metropolitan environments. Results indicate that too strictly enforcing global fairness may result in undesirable short-term and long-term behaviors. However, when we consider that guaranteeing global fairness is impossible due to the niteness of the metrics stored at each node, we see that the fairness control algorithms of CRMA-II can provide acceptable performance. One interesting general question arising from the observed behaviors is whether fairness control mechanisms should address \global" or \instant" fairness , that is whether they should aim at equalizing the usage of network resources over either very long or relatively small time intervals.

Overload Performance of Media Access Protocols for Dual Bus High-Speed Metropolitan Area Networks

In this paper we evaluate some of the media access control (MAC) protocols for high-speed metropolitan area networks based on the dual bus architecture. These MAC protocols are the Distributed Queue Dual Bus (DQDB) family of protocols and the Cyclic Reservation Multiple Access (CRMA). We carry out several simulation experiments to compare the performance of DQDB family of protocols with the CRM...

Evaluation of a BIBD Based Directional MAC Protocol for Wireless Ad Hoc Networks

The use of directional antennas in wireless ad hoc networks can significantly improve global performance due to a high spatial channel reuse. Nevertheless, its introduction poses new location dependent problems related to the MAC protocol. In this paper, the Balanced Incomplete Block Design theory has been exploited to develop a new MAC protocol for wireless ad hoc networks using directional ant...

Clique-based randomized multiple access for energy-efficient wireless ad hoc networks

A fundamental tradeoff in MAC protocol design for wireless ad hoc networks is between proactive and reactive coordination, where the latter is used to resolve access conflicts whose severity is determined by the former. In this paper, we describe Clique-Based RandomizedMultiple Access (CRMA), a distributed MAC protocol for wireless ad hoc network applications. Of the many objectives in MAC desi...

Game Theory based Energy Efficient Hybrid MAC Protocol for Lifetime Enhancement of Wireless Sensor Network

Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) comprising of tiny, power-constrained nodes are getting very popular due to their potential uses in wide applications like monitoring of environmental conditions, various military and civilian applications. The critical issue in the node is energy consumption since it is operated using battery, therefore its lifetime should be maximized for effective utilization ...
